The Tool That Changed How I See Myself
Is there something about yourself that you don’t like? Of course there is! We all have something about us that we would like to change. But what if you could see that thing in a different light? What if the one thing about yourself that you always saw as a flaw suddenly became your superpower?
As a young adult I always had this urge and this drive to want to make things better and my mind was always a flurry of new ideas. Other people were not always so quick to get on board with my latest, greatest plan especially my managers and co-workers. I started to feel self-conscious about these qualities and I began to wonder if I was one of these people who is just never satisfied.
Ten months ago I confided in a mentor that I was struggling with learning how to articulate my unique value. I had ventured into the scary world of entrepreneurship one year before (hey, I’m full of ideas right?) and prospective clients wanted to know what made me different from all of the other coaches and consultants out there. My mentor suggested I try a tool called the Fascinate Advantage Assessment (FAA) and she put me in touch with someone who was certified to use this tool.
A short conversation later with the lovely Finka Jerkovic and I had the assessment in my inbox. I held my breath as I awaited the results. The FAA gives you an in-depth personality brand report by revealing your top two Fascination Advantages. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read my top two advantages. My primary advantage was Prestige and my secondary advantage was Innovation. I spoke the language of excellence and creativity! Of course I always want to raise the bar and try new approaches. These are my natural gifts, not flaws or something I have to change.
I am not exaggerating when I say that my entire world changed in the few minutes it took to read my report. Suddenly those things that I thought weren’t so great about myself became my greatest asset. Permission to exhale!
I spent more time reading up on my advantages over the next few weeks and learning the language of the other 5 advantages. I now own my unique gifts with confidence and have learned how to use them to be heard and have more influence. I also have a greater understanding as to how I might be turning people off and I can even speak the languages of others so I can connect with them on a deeper level. I believed in the Fascinate System so much that I decided to become a Certified Advisor as well and now I get to help others discover their superpower!
